name... Sparrowpaw // sparrow -- n., a very common small brown or grey bird which feeds on seeds and insects. paw -- n., the foot of an animal, especially a quadruped, that has claws or nails.
gender... She-cat
age... 11 moons
group... RiverClan
rank... Medicine Cat Apprentice
reference... A brown tabby she-cat with gold-green eyes.
appearance... Sparrowpaw is aptly named--her fur is a striped brown color, much like the feathers of a sparrow. She is a mackerel tabby, and her stripes curve neatly around her lithe body. Though she has received some warrior training, it has not been the focus of her apprenticeship, so she is not as powerful in water as her brother. She is, however, naturally on the strong side, in appearance as well as personality. Sparrowpaw's gold-green eyes are often narrowed, and she often notices a lot of goings-on with them, which will give her the full medicine cat name Sparrowhawk.
personality... Sparrowpaw is feisty and headstrong with a bit of a compassionate streak. She isn't afraid to defy authority and firmly believes that she is right. Often quite snappish and rigidly determined to do what she wants and nothing more or less, Sparrowpaw is quite the character. She has no liking for kits or elders--"useless lumps of fur who sit around all day"--but she does have a soft spot for cats in trouble. She refuses to look past the traditional personality associated with each Clan, and does not care for the other Clans, but does feel that non-Clan cats deserve a touch of sympathy once in a while. Sparrowpaw is a quick memorizer, and often thinks of everything about a herb when it is brought to mind. She respects StarClan but doesn't particularly like the thought of dead cats being better than she is.
history... Honeylark was only about 18 moons when the medicine cat confirmed her pregnancy. She and Flamesong, who was about 10 moons older, had been close ever since she had become Honeypaw. Thus it was no surprise to Tansyfoot, her egotistical secret admirer, when it was announced that she was having Flamesong's kits. Tansyfoot was furious with Flamesong for stealing her from him, but never talked about it or even glared at his rival for fear of the leader's wrath.
So it was that three kits were born to the pair--Sparrowkit, Rapidkit, and Crowkit. Crowkit was smaller and weaker than his siblings, and Tansyfoot saw him as an opportunity for revenge. When the kits were 2 moons old, he lured Crowkit out of the nursery and into the river, where the young cat drowned. When all the evidence of Crowkit's murder pointed to Tansyfoot, he was exiled. Shortly thereafter, Flamesong met him on the border and fell, joining his son in StarClan. But Honeylark refused to stand idly by while her former lover destroyed her family. She hunted Tansyfoot down and killed him, in the process receiving heavy wounds.
When her kits turned four moons old, they began to mature. Sparrowkit often got into trouble and ending up in Mountainfrost's den a lot. Soon she had developed an interest in medicine cattery, and she asked her mother what she knew about herbs. Honeylark was furious that Sparrowkit didn't want to fight illness instead of the other Clans, and demanded that the leader not apprentice her to Mountainfrost. But Sparrowkit was spunky, and her opinion eventually overrode her mother's.
Sparrowkit became the medicine cat apprentice at six moons, under the name Sparrowpaw. She quickly memorized all the herbs, illnesses, symptoms, complaints, treatments, and the like, but her skills with prophecies and signs did not cut the mustard in Honeylark's eyes. The apprentice's mother lectured her on paying attention more. Furious at her mother's intervention, Sparrowpaw lashed out at and chased Honeylark away from camp, expecting her to return later on. She didn't, and Sparrowpaw and Rapidpaw went to look for her the next day.
They found her dead, killed by heavy wounds. Apparently rogues had opened the ones Tansyfoot had made and had added some of their own, and she had not made it back to camp quick enough. Rapidpaw blamed his sister for her death, but Sparrowpaw refused to wallow in guilt and instead strove to be a better medicine cat so that no cat would lecture her and therefore suffer the same fate again. In her eyes, she has succeeded so far, but she doesn't yet know what lies in her next three or more moons.
acquaintances... FLAMESONG -- a silver tabby tom with umber highlights. Father, defiant and bold. Killed by Tansyfoot.
HONEYLARK -- a golden-brown tabby she-cat. Mother, defensive and obstinate. Died of fatal wounds.
TANSYFOOT -- a pale ginger tabby tom. Father's rival, lustful and conceited. Killed by Honeylark.
RAPIDPAW -- a light grey tabby tom with brown highlights. Brother, inquisitive and cynical.
CROWKIT -- a light grey tabby tom with dark grey stripes. Brother, curious and brave. Killed by Tansyfoot.
MOUNTAINFROST -- a tall blue-grey she-cat with light green eyes. Mentor.
