name... Cloudspots // cloud -- n., a visible body of very fine water droplets or ice particles suspended in the atmosphere at altitudes ranging up to several miles above sea level. spots -- pl. n., marks on a surface differing sharply in color from their surroundings.
gender... Tom
age... 25 moons
group... ThunderClan
rank... Deputy
reference... A black bi-color tom with sky-blue eyes.
appearance... Most of Cloudspots's fur is a of a soft texture and a deep jet-black color. His dark coloring mirrors his father's, and he seems to take after him more than Cedartree, who gave his sister most of her appearance. Cloudspots's namesake is the patches of white that dapple his underbelly, chest, and paws, making it look as if part of him were dipped in ink and the other part in bleach. Eyes the blue of the sky on a clear afternoon decorate the ThunderClan deputy's face. They often flash with emotion, and change in shadow as much as his bi-polar feelings. Cloudspots is slightly smaller than most cats, but he is very maneuverable and therefore can be a deadly enemy in battle.
personality... Usually proud and aggressive but, ultimately, bi-polar, Cloudspots was always told by both his parents that he was one to fear and honor, and took that in stride. Cloudspots was is aggressive and almost merciless, his personality the spitting image of his father's and perhaps even more extreme. He holds grudges until he gets revenge for the wrongs done to him; apologies given to him count as revenge in certain circumstances but not in others.
If Cloudspots were leader--and he's almost there--his system of justice would be: eat a piece of prey on a hunting patrol? tend to the elders for several days; kill a cat in ThunderClan? explain actions and then either be allowed to stay or be exiled; have a forbidden mate? bye. Cloudspots does not hide his thoughts; while he can fabricate lies right off the bat, he sees no reason to manipulate other cats into thinking he's a kind, peaceful cat.
Authoritative and strict, Cloudspots pretty much runs around keeping everyone in line. Even a pawstep out of line, in his view, would throw the Clan off-balance and hurl them into the abyss of chaos and disorder. Being the deputy, he feels that it is his duty to keep everyone in line and remind them that they're not oh-so-great. He might need his own wake-up call; while not vain, or a narcissist, Cloudspots is very proud of both himself and his Clan, and doesn't take insults very well. He is, in fact, very foul-tempered. While hard-working and, on his good days and with the right crowd, compassionate, he is not a cat you would want to meet in a dark alley.
But he does have his good days, and sometimes he is around the right crowd. Cloudspots can be persuaded to be cheerful and what some may consider pleasant to be around. He can walk around with a bright expression on his face and be telling the whole truth. But his more pleasant days are numbered; in an instant, he can change from content to depressed, or cheerful to furious, or charismatic to venomous. The wrong words can catch him completely off guard--and then he'll catch the speaker off guard with his sudden mood swing.
history... Cloudspots was always the pride and joy of his father. Even throughout his youth, when there was nothing to be proud of about him, his father would look at him with a shining light in his eyes. Lightningstrike, deputy of ThunderClan, loved both his kits, but not equally. Brookkit was always regarded with slight disdain. Cedartree, who had mated with Lightningstrike simply to give ThunderClan some kits, favored neither kit, but often found herself comforting Brookkit when Lightningstrike failed to acknowledge her presence in the significant way he did Cloudkit's.
Cloudkit and Brookkit spent most of the day chasing moths, catching leaves, stalking bugs, and playing Ravenstar and Sunsetstar. Cloudkit and Brookkit were equally dominant, thus forcing them to trade off roles. Cloudkit was the fiercest Ravenstar, but Brookkit as the ShadowClan leader had the wittiest replies. Sunsetstar was portrayed as aggressively loyal by Cloudkit, while the red tabby of Brookkit's imagination was proudly protective.
Lightningstrike enjoyed Cloudkit's portrayals the most, though Cloudkit did not take this in stride and instead strove to make them more ridiculous so that his father would recognize Brookkit's acting. He was, in truth, not being generous but just trying to get off the hot seat. He didn't want to be pressured to be perfect, as he was sure Lightningstrike would do to him when he was a warrior. Brookkit tried to be more realistic in the playfights, which simply caused Lightningstrike to give her a little nod of approval. Depressed, Brookkit would slink into the shadows and lurk there, furious at Lightningstrike for ignoring here, at her brother for being the center of Lightningstrike's attention, at Cedartree for not making her father acknowledge her more, and at herself for not being as perfect as Cloudkit.
Cloudpaw's mentor was Sunsetstar, who was friendly and understanding around his apprentice despite being almost maniacally ferocious when confronted by other Clans. He was, however, a strict mentor who pushed his apprentices to do their very best. Cloudpaw excelled in hunting, being less stocky than most ThunderClan cats, and his blows during practice fights were powerful and strong-willed. Sunsetstar approved of his apprentice's techniques, though he didn't like Cloudpaw's approach to how to deal with each unique Clan. Sunsetstar would pretend to be a ShadowClan cat, a RiverClan cat, a WindClan cat, a rogue, and a traitorous ThunderClan cat, and Cloudpaw would attack him in the same way each time. It definitely worked, but it was not Sunsetstar's approach and therefore he didn't like it.
It was Lightningstrike, not Sunsetstar, who gave him his warrior name. Brookpaw, who had been training under a first-time mentor, became Brooksong, and Cloudpaw became Cloudspots. Sunsetstar had died in an ambush shortly after the apprentices reached twelve moons of age. Lightningstrike had named the new deputy and then promoted his kits before setting out for Highstones with the medicine cat. He returned under the name Lightningstar at sun-high the next day, exhausted but grateful for his new name and rank. A few days later, he gave his son an apprentice: Larkpaw, a pale brown tabby van she-cat. Her brother, Finchpaw, was given to a warrior that the deputy disliked; Finchpaw died of illness two moons into his apprenticeship. Cloudspots was an excellent match for Larkpaw, if a bit impatient.
Larkpaw became a warrior as Larkfeather, and Lightningstar immediately sought out a new apprentice for his son. Jaypaw was the cat he chose. Cloudspots felt pressured to train Jaypaw perfectly, and demanded more of his apprentice than Sunsetstar had demanded of him. Jaypaw was irritable but obedient if you knew how to talk to him. He was killed in an ambush by RiverClan, caused by the recent disputes that the Clans had been involved in over Sunningrocks. It was the night of his warrior ceremony; he had just started to sit vigil as Jayflight when the enemy warriors poured in. Lightningstar looked for yet another apprentice for Cloudspots, who was getting tired of mentoring cats. Brooksong was completely ignored, and she got very frustrated with her father yet again.
Snakepaw, Cloudspots's third apprentice, was killed by WindClan at 7 moons of age. Cloudspots does not think of her as very memorable; she was just another apprentice who worked for her Clan and trained under her mentor. Tempestpaw--killed at 8 moons by a badger--was Brooksong's apprentice. But by this time, both Cloudspots and Brooksong were ready to kill Lightningstar. Cloudspots maintained his sanity; Brooksong did not. When her mother went to try to remove her feelings of anger one day, she snapped and attacked Cedartree. She ended up killing her, and was immediately sent into exile by Lightningstar. As mentioned before, they had not been particularly close as mates go, but Lightningstar was now very concerned about his own--and his son's--safety. Unfortunately for him, his troubles had just begun.
Lightningstar lost his nine lives one by one--one claimed by a badger, four falling in battle, three lost by way of illness, and the last one taken away by an eagle who sought not to eat him but to protect her eaglets, who were near his hunting spot. The deputy under him--Finchwing--claimed the leader spot, and was forced to choose either one of the old senior warriors who would probably retire soon, a cat that he didn't like, or Cloudspots. Obviously enough, he chose Cloudspots, whose rank hasn't changed yet and who is as proud and foul-tempered as ever.
acquaintances... LIGHTNINGSTAR--a black tom. Father, proud of his son and not afraid to show it.
CEDARTREE--a torbie she-cat. Mother, overprotective and emotional.
BROOKSONG--a brown tabby she-cat. Sister, cheerful but scornful.
SUNSETSTAR--a red tabby tom. Mentor, offered advice and guidance.
TEMPESTPAW--a blue-gray tabby tom. Sister's apprentice, killed by badger at 8 moons.
SNAKEPAW--a light gray tabby she-cat. Apprentice, killed by WindClan at 7 moons.
JAYFLIGHT--a blue-gray Maine Coon tom. Apprentice, killed by RiverClan ambush on night of warrior ceremony.
LARKFEATHER--a pale brown tabby van she-cat. Apprentice, killed by the same badger that did away with Tempestpaw.
FINCHSTAR--a ginger-tabby-and-white tom with orange eyes. Leader, deputy to Lightningstar.
