FORECAST→ cold & windy but sunny CLOCK→ late morning; approx. 10:00 LOCATION→ RiverClan camp INFO→ after Light From the Window; for Basilstar, Reedblaze, Mountainfrost, Sparrowpaw, Thorn, Heart, Rapidpaw, and bystanders (up to 2) SCENE→ Thorn and Heart met Rapidpaw in RiverClan territory; Rapidpaw agreed to take them to Basilstar ` ` RAPIDPAW ?! && let's tread what's supposed to be hallowed
Skidding into camp, fur fluffed up and looking almost twice his size, Rapidpaw looked around wildly. Basilstar! Where's Basilstar? The two cats behind him might attack him if Basilstar didn't appear. At least, the tabby would...he wasn't so sure about the patched cat, she looked cowardly, skittish, unskilled, etc., but the tabby looked like a well-trained, shameless fighter. Rapidpaw was almost a warrior, and could beat most of the younger warriors in RiverClan (or at least was sure he could), but this cat was a rogue, a skilled rogue, a cat you wanted to have on your side...
Shoving those thoughts aside, Rapidpaw seated himself on the ground, his fur lying flat again. He had to calm down, he thought, as he called out softly, "Basilstar? I've brought, er, visitors..."[/blockquote][/blockquote] ` ` THORN ?! && i am the persecutor of myself in the wild hunt
Gazing at the camp with dark amber eyes, Thorn meowed scornfully to the silver cat--Rapidpaw, or Rapid, was it?--"This is your camp?" She remembered her early life with the cats of the thunder, and much as she despised that Clan now, their camp had been much more impressive, she thought. More well-protected than the river cats' one, which was so open it almost looked like the home of the followers of the late Eagle.
Thorn contemptuously stared down her nose at a young brown tabby approaching them. The newcomer looked about Rapid's age, and had a similar defiant, yet wary, look about her. The Queen of Destruction scented herbs on her, and realized she was a medicine cat (probably an apprentice)--the worst of the lot, she felt. "Go away," she hissed. "This concerns Basil, not you. I don't see why a medicine cat would be interested in hearing what Heart here has to say." She stressed the name, so Heart would get the message that Thorn was not doing the diplomatic work.[/blockquote][/blockquote] ` ` SPARROWPAW ?! && i'd love to pull the wires from the wall
Mallow rustled around in the storage area of the medicine den, guided by striped brown paws. As Sparrowpaw arranged it to her satisfaction, she picked up Rapidpaw's voice outside with her ears. The medicine cat apprentice hurried out of the den and started when she saw her brother sitting, licking his paw and using it to clean himself, next to two outsiders. Cautiously, fury boiling inside her, Sparrowpaw approached the three. Confusion danced in her eyes when the brown tabby and more dangerous-looking outsider spoke. Basil? Is that the same as Basilstar? And how does she know what a medicine cat is? But she respected the tabby's wishes and backed up a few pawsteps, not wanting to get hurt but still wanting to be in on the action.[/blockquote][/blockquote]

...what's.the.story.morning.glory?... Basilstar sat, hunched in the center of the camp, observing the bustling life of his clan. Leaves on bushes around him were dancing in time to the gusts of wind that chilled his bones. Dust swirled in the air, sticking stubbornly to his silver fur, the particles refusing, despite the nippy wind, to dislodge themselves. A gray paw was draw to his mouth, a pink tongue rasped across its surface. The taste of earth overwhelmed his senses and had a calming effect upon him. He was at peace for the first time in a long while, and he was happy with that.
...well... The small gyros of dirt were only worsened when a seemingly frightened apprentice skidded rapidly into camp. Basilstar recognized the distressed feline; it was Rapidpaw, a young cat almost worthy of his warrior name. He heard him speak quietly, as if he was worrisome, “Basilstar, I’ve brought... er... visitors.” Basilstar whipped his gaze from the apprentice to the location from which he’d entered. Two cats, aggressive and roguish in appearance, had followed Rapidpaw into the camp. Basilstar thought he perhaps vaguely remembered the tabby from someplace; he couldn’t place it though.
...need.a.little.time.to.wake.up... “This is your camp?” the tabby remarked. Basilstar disliked her tone; contempt seemed stained in her voice, even in her very being. Footsteps could be heard somewhere off to Basilstar’s right and he placed the smell as Sparrowpaw, the medicine cat’s apprentice. He was about to tell her to leave, for he was unsettled by the two rogues standing before him. The tabby, however, spoke for him. “Go away.” It was punctuated by a hiss. “This concerns Basil, not you. I don't see why a medicine cat would be interested in hearing what Heart here has to say."
...wake.up.well... Basil narrowed his eyes at the tabby. She was here for reasons other that what he’d expected. Than again, what had he expected? On top of that, she’d addressed him as Basil. How could she know his name? Why had she not addressed him with his leader title? What exactly was going on here. Basilstar flicked his tail to send Rapidpaw away, before turning to his visitors.
...what's.the.story.morning.glory?... “Perhaps it is best that we discuss this... elsewhere. Out of earshot of those it doesn’t concern?” Basilstar stated, tipping his head in the direction on the two apprentices. “Now, you clearly know me, but I was not aware of your presence in this territory. I would appreciate it if you would both tell me your names and your purpose for being in Riverclan’s camp.” He strode slowly into his own den, with the intentions of having the two rogues follow him. They stank of bad thing, but exactly what, he wasn’t sure.

Thorn i am the persecutor of myself in the wild hunt "An excellent idea," she meowed to the leader of the cats of the river, glaring at the apprentices. Rapid seemed all right -- he'd brought the rogues here, after all -- but the brown tabby apprentice was getting on her nerves.
Thorn followed Basilstar into his den, amber eyes dark. "Gladly, Basil," she responded to his request. "Or perhaps, as this is a diplomatic mission, and I have no wish to offend you or disrespect your traditions...I should call you Basilstar." Her tail twitched with the effort of saying the time without clawing the ground into shreds. Second parts of names were Clanners' trademarks, and she didn't like using them.
"This," the brown tabby she-cat added, gesturing with her tail at Heart, "is Heart. She is a messenger in the band of cats that I am leader of. You may call me Thorn. As for our purpose..." She stepped back and looked expectantly at the thin patched she-cat. "Heart would be delighted to tell you." In your dreams, she added silently, but didn't say so aloud. She had to do this right; the slightest imperfect motion or word could upset the balance of the whole mission.

mountainfrost (rc med):
Mountainfrost glanced up from the piles of herbs at her paws, alerted to the presence of newcomers by the rustling of reeds at the entrance to the camp. "Sparrowpaw, who is that?" she asked softly, unconcerned. It was probably just a returning patrol or something little like that, but it never hurt to check. Sliding out of the den, her eyes widened as she saw Rapidpaw, looking scared and jumpy, along with two other cats she had never seen before. One was a brown tabby with dark amber eyes who carried herself with purpose and confidence. The other stranger was a small red-and-white she-cat who looked scared, and was clearly trying to hide that. Basilstar appeared and exchanged a few words with the newcomers before walking into his den; the other cats followed. Mountainfrost decided she had better come too -- she was an important cat in the Clan and had a right to know who these cats were. And besides, a bunch of new cats showing up randomly was never something great. Who knows, Mountainfrost thought nervously. They might even have something to do with the prophecy.
heart (rb mes):
Heart fidgeted nervously, looking all around her as she followed Thorn and Basil into the leader's den. The river cats seemed just curious, not especially aggressive or anything, which was great. The fur on Heart's red-and-white back bristled warily as Thorn spoke, introducing herself and Heart. The messenger jumped in surprise as Thorn said that she should tell the RiverClanner about the potential alliance. She had, of course, known that she would be doing a lot of talking -- she was a messenger; that was her job -- but this just seemed to be going so fast. She had just woken up in the barn aa few hours ago, and now they were talking with the river cats! "Um, yes," Heart said quickly, cursing herself for not having planned exactly what she would say. Taking a wary step forwards, Heart spoke again. "Thorn, as she said, is the leader of a rogue band, of which I am a part of," Heart began, trying to be as articulate and professional as possible. "We have come to you to offer an... alliance." She paused here, waiting to see how the river cats took this bit of news.
reedblaze (rc dep):
Reedblaze had been in Basilstar's den when the group of cats had come in, putting out a piece of prey for the leader to eat. He knew it was really an apprentice's job, but what did it really matter? All that mettered was that basilstar got the prey -- not like it would be tainted or anything just because Reedblaze had done the job, and not Rapidpaw or some other apprentice. Taking a few steps backwards at the sight of the four cats, Reedblaze wondered what was going on. Sitting, he listened to their conversation for a few moments; he should be here, seeing as both Basilstar and Mountainfrost were here -- this was clearly something all the highest cats should be in. Reedblaze slowly began to understand what was happening as the strangers introduced themselves. What was this rogue band they were talking about? Reedblaze had certainly never heard of it or seen any trace of it. Pricking his ears and waving his tail slowly, Reedblaze listened to the small red-and-white she-cat start to speak. Her high-pitched words, hesitant as they may be, carried a great weight upon them. "Alliance?!" Reedblaze said quickly, forgetting that the others might not know he was in the den. "Whatever for?" Taking a step forwards, he looked into the messenger's eyes, cautiously asserting his rank as deputy of RiverClan. These cats might be powerful and strong, but they weren't on their territory anymore -- RiverClan ruled here.
ooc: okay, if there are any Reeblazes in there, I'll kill myself.

ooc: not my turn, but beanz won't be on til sunday evening and anyway thorn doesn't take turns. Thorn i am the persecutor of myself in the wild hunt Reedblaze's outburst surprised her; she hadn't realized he was present. Whipping her head around to check for more unseen cats, she saw a tall blue-gray she-cat and cursed silently. Her too! I'll need to be more diplomatic than I thought; you can never tell with these medicine cats. At least Heart said "we're offering you an alliance" instead of "we killed one of your warriors and we want you to help us destroy ThunderClan muhaha we are evil little beings no?" or whatever.
"Mountainfrost, Reedblaze," Thorn acknowledged them, dipping her head. It angered her to be with so many RiverClan cats; they could gang up on her, and if Heart would be any help, she was a hedgehog. Turning back to the silver tabby RiverClan leader, she meowed, "We offer you an alliance against ThunderClan. Finchstar, as you may have noticed already, is a menace to your Clan and others. I do not personally know what life under him is like, but I knew a ThunderClan cat once, and I can tell you that Finchstar and Lightningstar were always raving about ShadowClan, WindClan, and especially RiverClan, and how they should be eliminated."
She paused, meeting all three green gazes coolly to let her words sink in, before continuing, "We plan to attack them and send the message to Finchstar, that untrustworthy minion of his Cloudspots, and all their supporters that the balance of the forest is not to be meddled with. Based on what the ThunderClan cat told me, they cannot last if one falls. I don't care for the Clans a whole lot, but I respect the fact that you've managed to be the central power in this forest for so long. I think your Clan is the most intelligent and skilled of them all, so I have come to you to ask your aid in my act of preserving the Clans, especially yours, from the menace that ThunderClan has become."
As Thorn finished her speech, she gently laid her dark-ringed light brown tail across her front paws. She'd ended up doing Heart's job, she realized, but she wasn't willing to take chances. Normally she wasn't as careful about what she said to Clan leaders (normally missions involving them ended with their deaths), but this Clan was pretty much her only hope. The other Clans might blame her for the deaths of Eaglestar and Ravenstar, and refuse to grant her help -- but she could concoct some excuse for killing a mere warrior, if they suspected.

mountainfrost (rc med):
Mountainfrost sat, flicking her blue-gray tail anxiously. She nodded curtly to Thorn when the rogue whipped her head around and stared -- how did she know my name?! -- and pricked her ears, listening carefully. After Thorn's monologue, the medicine cat sighed and wondered what the options were. She was, of course, just a medicine cat, and didn't deal nearly as much with the forest-wide relations as the leader and deputy did, but her opinions counted for something. Mountainfrost decided that she most definitely didn't agree with what Thorn was proposing. Yes, ThunderClan/Finchstar could be belligerent and troublesome at times, but did that mean they should be erased? Not at all, Mountainfrost thought. And besides, what does Thorn care about the Clans? Sure, she lives in Clan territory, but rogues don't really have anything to do with the Clans... Mountainfrost took a step forwards so she could see Basilstar and Reedblaze better, and kept silent. She was going to stay quiet and see what the leader and deputy did before she said anything.
heart (rb mes):
Heart narrowed her eyes as Thorn rattled off her speech. What am I, chopped mouse? Heart thought, irritated, as her leader did her job for her. Guessing that that meant that she hadn't been doing such a great job, Heart took and decided to keep silent. Heart hoped the river cats would accept the alliance, as it was the best option. She shuddered slightly, thinking of the destruction that the rogue band and RiverClan could do to the forest. But still, an alliance was the best choice -- if their was no alliance, either Thorn would pick off the forest cats one by one or the Clans would squash the rogue band into nonexistence. Heart sighed, twitching her whiskers sadly.
reedblaze (rc dep):
Reedblaze listened to Thorn's words, flicking his tail back and forth warily. Cocking his black-and-white head to the side, the deputy considered the rogue's words. He didn't agree with what she said, but Reedblaze was more interested in how Thorn knew so much about the Clans. I'll ask her after Basilstar decides what to do about this prospective alliance, Reedblaze thought decisively. He turned to Basilstar, waiting for the leader's words.

...and.now.the.time.has.come... Basilstar listened carefully to what Thorn was suggesting, her words, vile yet sounding vaguely tempting. Her proposition could have received a quick ‘yes’ if it made more sense. He’d never felt all that threatened by Thunderclan; he had faith in his warriors and their proficient abilities in battle... but Thunderclan’s leadership, nor their followers, ever seemed all that kind to him. Sure he was of a separate clan, but he was a leader. All leaders were to be treated with utmost respect, and to think about it, Basilstar didn’t feel as if he’d ever gotten the respect he deserved out of Thunderclan. Finchstar continuously seemed abrupt in his conversations, his warriors appearing forever condescending and showing contempt towards him. The chance of getting back at Thunderclan was a bit enticing...
...to.cut.our.tongues.out... Then, the doubts erupted through his mind. If he assisted this mysterious rogue in this attack on Thunderclan, what would the other clans do? What would be in it for his clan? Was it reasonable in any way? How would Thunderclan react? The consequences could be brutal, the battles, mistrust, and hatred that were bound to follow would be costly. He could lose the reputation and rank he’d worked his whole life to earn. He could lose everything. His own clan could turn on him...
...and.commit.ourselves.as.you.did.in.your.memory... Memories began to flood back to him, though, memories that portrayed Thunderclan in a negative light. The ambush that ended Risingstar’s life. They had dared kill a leader? They had dared to attempt the killing of a queen and her kits? They had killed his fellow warriors? Then there was the skirmish after a Gathering, a long while back, when Basilstar was still an apprentice. His ‘once-father’ Frozenstream had been attacked, out of the blue, right as the meeting concluded. An unprovoked Thunderclan apprentice had startled the tom with a slash to the eyes. For some time, Frozenstream’s vision was in question. At one point the medicine cat had doubted that he’d ever be able to see again. As these thoughts coursed through him, anger began to light in his belly. A fire burned violent and intense. He was officially pissed off.
...we’ll.tear.down.the.walls... Barely able to think straight, he tried to take a few breaths to calm down, but it was a struggle. He spit out a few words, trying not to seem to eager to accept. “My interest is piqued, but I have a couple questions. Why would you help us? And, on top of that, why should we help you?”
ooc:as much as it might be out of character for basilstar to accept something like this... How could I, as his roleplayer, let him say no to such a tempting plot line? xD

ooc: i love making random stuff up for thorn to say. xD seriously, this whole thread is just like one big lie from her mouth. Thorn i am the persecutor of myself in the wild hunt My interest is piqued... Thorn's amber eyes glowed with satisfaction as Basilstar spoke the words. A piqued interest could easily become a "yes". The brown tabby almost wanted to let Heart handle the rest, but decided to keep playing it safe. "Why would I help you? Simple -- I see no reason not to, and I benefit from it." She paused, twitching her tail-tip thoughtfully, then raised her head slightly and continued.
"Finchstar is not only a danger to RiverClan, and ShadowClan, and WindClan; he is a danger to my rogue group. The ThunderClan cat I knew once told me that if she weren't an old acquaintance of mine she'd kill me for even getting close to her Clan's border, and also that her leader and deputy -- then Lightningstar and Finchwing -- were hugely ambitious about gaining territory. They're a threat to every cat in this forest who isn't one hundred percent behind them; alone we fall, but united we stand, and I'd rather unite with your Clan than any other."
Rubbish, pure rubbish. Garbage, sugarcoated lies, sweet falsehoods streamed from her mouth. Of course, Finchstar was too ambitious for his own good, and he was a threat to anyone who wasn't in ThunderClan, but..."alone we fall, united we stand"? Ha! It was brilliant, of course, at least in Thorn's opinion. If you just spoke eloquently yet spewed as much trash from your mouth as possible, you could win anyone over (except Finchstar; you'd have to bribe him).
"As for why you should help us...well, if you don't, we're attacking them anyway, and we'll probably be slaughtered by them, and they'll get even more arrogant and they'll start to think they can defeat anyone, even a group of cats as ferocious in battle as my rogue group." And suddenly she realized something odd; she never called her rogue band a rogue band, or a rogue group, or anything with "rogue" in it. But now the word flowed naturally off her tongue -- she replaced non-Clanner, feral cat, outsider, etc. with the simple Clan term "rogue". That might give you away as a former Clanner, her mind warned her.
Thorn took a deep breath and added quickly, "They might get so full of themselves that they try to attack you, or maybe another Clan. Now, I don't mean to threaten you. I certainly won't harm any of your Clanmates, or you yourself, if you don't agree to this alliance. But I can't guarantee that Finchstar can make that promise as well." She blinked solemnly. "And anyway, if you help us we'll owe you a favor, and it's always good to have someone in debt to you that you can turn to if things go wrong."

Heart listened as her leader rattled off the speech. She's lying, Heart thought sadly. It's all just one big lie. She felt sick as she listened attentively to Thorn's monologue, but she couldn't do anything -- Heart was too loyal to speak up, and besides, even if she did, who would listen to the measly messenger?
Reedblaze listened, pricking his ears. He was still waiting for his chance to ask Thorn how she knew so much about the Clans; he couldn't interrupt her speech, and besides he should be paying more attention anyway. Turning to Basilstar, he waited for the leader's answer. He was a loyal cat, and wouldn't dream of going against his leader -- after all, the leader's words are the warrior code.
Mountainfrost waited for Basilstar's answer. She was a loyal cat, one who would never go against her leader, but she couldn't let something like this happen! "Excuse me," she hissed to Reedblaze as she pushed past him towards Basilstar. Leaning forwards and shooting a wary glance to Thorn and her messenger, she whispered in her leader's ear. "I apologize for interrupting, Basilstar, but I see that you are considering this rogue's offer. I think you should take dome time to think about this; sleep on it, Basilstar. This offer is a potentially life-changing thing -- it could make or break RiverClan. Please, take your time with this answer." Her voice was strained and quiet, and her urgency was evident.
Reedblaze (ooc: yes, him again, sorry) watched as Mountainfrost hissed in Basilstar's ear. Taking a couple steps forwards so he could listen in to the conversation, Reedblaze shot a glare at Thorn: Don't you dare listen to us talk. If you want this alliance, you better be polite about it! Nodding his head slowly as Mountainfrost spoke, he realized that he agreed. "Yes, Basilstar. I agree with Mountainfrost. And besides... these cats are suspicious. Think about it: how could they know so much about the Clans? They're rogues, for StarClan's sake!" He then realized, with a start, that he had gotten a little bit carried away and his voice had risen. With a nervous and sheepish look at Thorn, Reedblaze wondered if she could have heard his words.
