FORECAST→ chilly w/ light breeze, partly sunny CLOCK→ around sun-high; approx. 11:30 LOCATION→ ThunderClan territory, near Fourtrees INFO→ for Cloudspots and Heart SCENE→ Cloudspots is hunting and Heart is doing whatever xP ` ` CLOUDSPOTS ?! && we'll never join the games you play
[/size] A paw slapped down on the mouse and drew back slowly, claws sliding out and piercing the rodent's flesh. The white fur on the paw shone brightly in the sunlight, even though the sun itself was blocked partially by clouds. The ThunderClan deputy's sky-blue eyes flashed with triumph as he lunged for his prey's throat, and purred as his fangs met the flesh of the mouse's neck. Another day, another kill in the name of ThunderClan.
Cloudspots pawed at the ground and made a slight dip, where he placed the creature carefully. He covered it with the dug-up ground and left, confident he'd remember the place later. As he bounded away, a slightly new scent wafted onto the breeze and through his nostrils, but he took no notice of it. Probably just some cat wandering on the outskirts of Fourtrees. If it's in my territory, it's in big trouble, but I doubt it would be that dumb...
Cloudspots thought little of rogues, but he knew they were smart enough not to try to join ShadowClan, RiverClan, or WindClan [either that or they'd tried and been laughed or driven off]. It stood to reason that no half-sensible cat would venture onto ThunderClan's territory. The whereabouts of the scent-source were unknown to Cloudspots, but he didn't much care unless they were on his Clan's territory.[/blockquote][/blockquote]

h e a r t **
HEART TIPPED HER nose into the air, inhaling deeply. There were so many cat-scents here, where the four trees loomed dramatically over the clearing. This must be a Clan place, Heart decided. There are so many cats -- they couldn't be rogues. Cocking her head to the side, Heart contemplated this. Why would so many cats meet all at once? Well, Clans will be Clans, Heart sighed condescendingly. What they do doesn't matter. But now wasn't the time for thinking about the Clans: it was rogue band time. Heart had left the group to hunt; she was hungry and assumed the other cats were, too. The messenger had wandered around for a few minutes until she arrived at Fourtrees, which she thought was just a weird meeting-place for the Clans.
SNIFFING ONCE AGAIN, Heart searched the air for the scent of prey. Ahh, there one is: mouse! Settling deep into the hunter's crouch, Heart stalked forwards and prepared to pounce. Her rump wiggled slightly and her eyes narrowed, but before she could leap forwards, a paw slammed down on the unsuspecting mouse. Aah! Heart nearly jumped in surprise -- she hadn't noticed the other cat at all -- but she managed to control it in fear that she would alert the other cat of her presence.
HOWEVER, THE SHE-CAT'S surprise quickly turned to mild annoyance, and then to full-out anger. That was my mouse! How dare that cat take it! Narrowing her eyes, Heart decided to talk to the stranger and tell him exactly what he had done wrong. She usually didn't get angry easily, but this situation was different: she had been doing something good for the rogue band, trying to get on Thorn's good side, and then that cat has just taken the mouse! It had clearly been hers.
THE OTHER CAT had, by now, placed his catch into a shallow hole in the ground and padded away. Slinking rapidly after him, Heart wondered who the cat was. She had never seen him before, but that wasn't strange at all. There were so many cats in the forest; Heart had barely talked to a fraction of them. And there were so many Clan cats -- Hey, maybe he's a Clan cat. Maybe he's a ThunderClan cat! Maybe I can tell him about Thorn's plan! Praying that this was her chance to stop Queen Thorn in her tracks, Heart walked even faster after the cat.
AFTER A MINUTE, though, Heart got tired of waiting for the cat to stop. Her anger long forgotten, she jumped forward. Landing close to the cat, she gave a short yowl: "Wait!" Hoping the stranger wouldn't brush her off as a random rogue, she gave another cry. "Please! I need to help you!"

CLOUDSPOTS ! we'll never join the games you play Cloudspots jerked back as the rogue leapt near him. "Wha--" He cut himself off as the red-and-white she-cat spoke. "Wait! Please! I need to help you!" Cloudspots tipped his head to one side and narrowed his eyes. Normally he would be angry, but...this was just too weird. "...I-I need help?" he asked, confusion clouding his gaze. What was the cat talking about? Was he in grave danger? Would he have suffer mortal wounds if he had caught the robin he'd had his eye on that this newcomer had so rudely scared off?
Confusion quickly gave way to more anger. "Get off ThunderClan territory now," the deputy spat, his dark fur bristling and claws unsheathing, "or I shall force you to." He needed no help, and did not have time to waste with delusional loners.

HEART CURLED UP her tail in excitement when the other cat spoke. "Yes! I'm part of Thorn's ro--" but the Clan cat cut her off with a threat. Uh-oh... Heart's nervous side kicked in and she shrank back, suddenly rethinking her decision to talk to him. "Um... she whispered, taking another step backwards and preparing to leave. This other cat looked much stronger than she did, especially because she was pretty small -- Heart's forte was speed, not size or strength.
IN AN EFFORT to keep herself from running away -- she had to talk to this cat, no matter how much he scared her -- Heart forced herself to think rationally. Even if he does try and attack me, I can run away, right? And then maybe if I get back to the rest of the group, they can help me fend him off... She nodded as she thought about this, and decided that she wouldn't leave. I can do this. Padding forwards again, she dipped her head in submission. "I'm sorry for scaring away your prey," she said quietly, "but I really need to talk to you." She assumed the other cat would try and cut her off again with another threat, so she spoke faster now, trying to get in as many words as possible. "Please! It's for the sake of your Clan!"
BENDING HER LEGS a little so she might seem small and harmless, Heart's eyes widened in anxiety. Please, please, let him listen to me. Assuming the cat was a warrior -- Most Clan cats are warriors, right? -- she decided that the best course of action was to talk to his Clan's leader. Maybe they would have better judgment and know help when they saw it. "I need to talk to your leader or deputy. It's for your Clan!" she repeated, her voice getting higher in fear as she wondered what would happen if he didn't listen to her. [/blockquote]

CLOUDSPOTS ! we'll never join the games you play For the sake of my Clan? Well, all right. If what she said wasn't useful, he could always chase her off. At least she was smaller than he was; she probably wouldn't try fighting him.
"Very well, then. You may talk to me. I am ThunderClan's deputy." Cloudspots wrapped his tail tightly around his white paws, light blue eyes narrowing. "Who's Thorn? You mentioned him...or her." He added the last pronoun carefully; his time spent with Brooksong had taught him never to assume that someone was a tom just because they sounded important or tough.

HEART BLINKED IN surprise when the other cat announced that he was the deputy of ThunderClan. Trying to look as respectful as possible -- she didn't to mess up in front of this important cat -- she smiled in relief. "Oh, thank you so much," she purred. She sat down and curled her tail around her paws before beginning to speak. Once she was comfortable and seated nicely, she spoke: "Before I start, I just want you to know that I really don't agree with what Thorn is trying to do." She really didn't; Heart's personality was very different than Thorn's. "I'm part a rogue band, okay? We live around there, near the barn." At that point, she gestured with her tail in the direction of the barn. "I'm just the messenger, much lower than Queen Thorn -- she's the leader of the group. She's kind of... aggressive, and... I don't like her very much." Heart stuttered a bit on the last words. As much as she disliked Thorn, she didn't particularly want to insult her. [/blockquote]

"A rogue band?" Cloudspots's sky-blue eyes darkened. How do I know I can trust you? "And you say the leader calls herself Queen Thorn? And she's very aggressive? Sounds like the sort of cat who might've killed Eaglestar or Ravenstar."
He'd heard stories of the leaders' deaths from the other deputies. Ripplesplash had told him how Ravenstar's body was bloodied and heavy with fresh scars, as if the cat who had attacked him wanted to hurt him more than just killing him. And Birchstorm's eyes had been wide as he described the scene spread out before him on the day he found Eaglestar's body with a border patrol--she'd been ripped from head to tail by sharp claws, probably draining out all her remaining lives. They had suspected RiverClan at first, but on closer inspection, they discovered only the scent of rogues on her. The cat must've known the Clans well to plot that out, though, and Thorn didn't sound like any sort of Clan cat.
"So, what's this Thorn trying to do? Take over the forest?" the ThunderClan deputy mewed. If I can trust her, this is the most valuable information Finchstar will hear in the next season, Cloudspots thought excitedly. How strange this rogue must be, to join a rogue band whose leader she doesn't like--and then turn traitor!

HEART SIGHED IN relief. Not only was the cat talking and listening to her, he even knew what she was talking about! "Yes!" Fidgeting anxiously, willing but nervous about giving out her leader's information, she whispered. "She's the one who killed them! And she's planning to kill more cats..." Heart shivered as she thought of all the blood that would be spilled in the coming months.
HEART NODDED. "EXACTLY," she meowed. "She's going to go to the river cats now -- I mean, RiverClan -- and she's going to ask them if they want an alliance. And she's going to attack ThunderClan next." Shrinking back slightly, Heart wondered nervously how the deputy would take this horrifying information. "Like I said," she added hurriedly, "I don't think she should be doing any of this. I mean, I didn't even want to be in her band!" She would have continued, but then thought about how unwise it was to give her information and life story away to this Clan cat whom she had just met.
HEART'S EYES WIDENED as she thought of her duty to the rogue band. "Don't tell her I said any of this!" she said pleadingly. "If she knew, she'd... I don't know what she'd do, but believe me, it sure wouldn't be pretty." Closing her eyes despairingly, Heart wondered how she had gotten to be like this. She was a loyal cat -- she might not think Thorn was the nicest cat around, but that didn't mean she'd go around telling other cats her plans!

CLOUDSPOTS -- deputy of thunderclan ,
"She killed them?" Shock ran thick through Cloudspots's voice. But at Heart's next words he received a stronger jolt of it. She's going to attack ThunderClan next! He pictured a terrible scene. The four new apprentices, not yet ready to fight the kind of barbarian who could've killed Ravenstar and Eaglestar, lay motionless on the camp floor. He, Darkspots, Ashwind, and Honeywhisker, guilt clawing at their hearts because they hadn't protected/taught their apprentices well enough, stood over them, shaking their heads sadly. And Finchstar glared at the four warriors from his den, orange eyes dark with depression and blazing with fury at the same time.
How could he let that happen? But it didn't have to. Because this rogue had come into it all.
The ThunderClan bi-color tom could barely process it all, but he managed to say, "I won't tell her. How could I? When I meet her, I'll either die or kill her." Cloudspots gazed steadily at the patched messenger for a few moments. "But I promise, no matter who survives, I won't tell her you told me." Partially because I'm not even sure I can trust you, and partially because if I can, I see no reason to betray you.
