name... Rapidpaw // rapid -- n., an extremely fast-moving part of a river, caused by a steep descent in the riverbed. paw -- n., the foot of an animal, especially a quadruped, that has claws or nails.
gender... Tom
age... 11 moons
group... RiverClan
rank... Warrior Apprentice
reference... A light gray tabby tom with brown highlights.
appearance... Sage eyes glitter, set neatly in Rapidpaw's head. His eyes are a pale green and often twinkle with a cheerful light, making Rapidpaw seem like just another happy-go-lucky, not-quite-mature apprentice. His fur is a light gray, almost silver color, with darker gray stripes which are visible but not very dark gray. Golden-brown highlights dapple and streak his fur coat, which is groomed carefully every day to preserve his "outstanding looks". Rapidpaw is built a lot like his sister -- sort of lithe, a bit sleek, of average size -- but is stronger in water than she is and has more powerful paws and more maneuverable claws.
personality... Inquisitive and curious, Rapidpaw is a very nosy cat. Always poking his head into stuff that is none of his business, Rapidpaw only enjoys learning what he doesn't need to know or shouldn't know. He's quite cynical, and doubts most of his Clanmates whenever they tell stories or make excuses. He doesn't believe the stories about the TigerClan and LionClan and LeopardClan, he doesn't believe that his sister couldn't've done anything to prevent Honeylark's death, he doesn't believe any dumb story another apprentice might tell about driving off a fox.
He's a strong supporter of the "seeing-is-believing" idea, and therefore refuses to believe anything he can't see. He's not exactly an atheist--he doesn't doubt the presence of StarClan--but he denies the idea that they have any power, not even the ability to give cats nine lives (though he plays along with the idea to not seem out of place). After all, he reasons, they're just dead cats in the sky, aren't they?
Rapidpaw is quick to point out flaws and loves to critique other cats' ideas, work, intelligence, and appearance. Despite this, he hates it when he is criticized. He's very proud of himself, and is almost as arrogant as his sister Sparrowpaw. He's smart and a good, sensible thinker, but not so much sly and strategic as logical and quick-thinking. He doesn't have a hot temper, nor a short fuse, but it isn't rare that he gets irritable and becomes not the best cat to hang out with. Most of the time he's either in that mood or just friendly and bright.
Rapidpaw isn't a coward, but he's hesitant and careful. He loves battle, he loves the feel of enemy fur shredding beneath his claws, he loves enemy blood to soak through his clear weapons and turn them crimson -- but he never blindly rushes into a fight. He stays on the outskirts to consider his advantages before doing so, not wanting to enter a fight that is sure to be his last. He often sees fighting as the best solution, and is not afraid to spill blood to settle problems even when talking it out is an available option, but he wouldn't dream of attacking before thinking it over.
history... Honeylark was only about 18 moons when the medicine cat confirmed her pregnancy. She and Flamesong, who was about 10 moons older, had been close ever since she had become Honeypaw. Thus it was no surprise to Tansyfoot, her egotistical secret admirer, when it was announced that she was having Flamesong's kits. Tansyfoot was furious with Flamesong for stealing her from him, but never talked about it or even glared at his rival for fear of the leader's wrath.
So it was that three kits were born to the pair--Sparrowkit, Rapidkit, and Crowkit. Crowkit was smaller and weaker than his siblings, and Tansyfoot saw him as an opportunity for revenge. When the kits were 2 moons old, he lured Crowkit out of the nursery and into the river, where the young cat drowned. When all the evidence of Crowkit's murder pointed to Tansyfoot, he was exiled. Shortly thereafter, Flamesong met him on the border and fell, joining his son in StarClan. But Honeylark refused to stand idly by while her former lover destroyed her family. She hunted Tansyfoot down and killed him, in the process receiving heavy wounds.
When her kits turned four moons old, they began to mature. Sparrowkit developed an interest in herbs, while Rapidkit often questioned Honeylark about being a warrior. He saw it as something new and exciting, and couldn't wait until he was apprentice. A third of the stories his mother told him, he didn't believe--once, she said, she fought off a badger with Flamesong. He doubted it was true. Two cats fighting a badger? He had heard that badgers were huge! And he was right. But Honeylark refused to say Tansyfoot's name in an honoring fashion.
Sparrowkit became the medicine cat apprentice at six moons, and Rapidkit a normal warrior apprentice, under the names of Sparrowpaw and Rapidpaw, respectively. Rapidpaw soon caught onto swimming and fishing--he was aptly named, it seemed--but he was poor at hunting anything else, and fighting on land caused him a bit of trouble. Gradually he refined his skills, until he prided himself on what he called his "excellent apprentice-ness".
One day, after a quarrel with Rapidpaw's sister, Honeylark disappeared. The siblings went to look for her the next day. They found her dead, killed by heavy wounds. Apparently rogues had opened the ones Tansyfoot had made and had added some of their own, and she had not made it back to camp quick enough. Rapidpaw, enraged, blamed his sister for Honeylark's fall, but much to his dismay she refused to blame herself. Now Rapidpaw is one moon away from gaining his warrior name, and looks forward to it with great eagerness.
acquaintances... FLAMESONG -- a silver tabby tom with umber highlights. Father, defiant and bold. Killed by Tansyfoot.
